Surviving the Urban Nights

A restful sleep is important to maintaining health and beauty but living in the big city can often make that difficult. Here are some simple ideas for getting some shut eye.
Block out the light
One of the worst things about a large city is light pollution. You can shut out some of that light with curtains but that only does so much. This is when a sleep eye mask is a great option. You can leave your windows open and still block out that light that disrupts our sleep patterns. On top of that, some sleeping masks have gel packs in them that can be frozen to reduce puffiness around the eyes.
Control the noise
Put on some white noise or a podcast that will help you sleep. I like to use podcasts on my computer to lull me off to dream land. Personally, I like scientific podcasts. The only problem is the light from the screen. This is another area where sleep masks can help out since they bloc out the light so well. Just make sure that the volume is low enough not to be a bother.
Keep your sleeping area sacred
If you work from home you need to keep your work area and your bedroom totally separate from each other. This will train your body and mind to associate your bedroom with sleep and nothing else. You don’t’ want to think about work when trying to fall asleep. When you wake up in the morning, get out of bed and leave the room so that this distinction is more solid.
By creating a restful environment and blocking out the more disruptive elements around us through the use of things like sleep masks, curtains and music you can ensure a restful night which is the foundation of continued health and beauty.
